Here is a great note from one of our long time patients who happens to be a cardiologist. It requires a bit of a back story though.

For decades Dr. Santopietro used to make each custom orthotic by hand in a painstaking process of matching the features of the orthotic prescription to foot. Now patients can be seen and have new custom orthosis within an hour. The handmade devices performed very well for patients and did a great job of putting the patient’s foot in a better position.

But in the last few years we have been focusing on innovating the approach to orthotics, not just changing our approach, but really challenging the industry that has stagnated for several decades. We  developed an entirely new orthotic product, a new way of fabricating it and one that delivers more benefits to patients.

We feel that we have done this very well because it has allowed Dr. Santopietro to spend even more time with his patients and has improved the accuracy and performance of the orthotics. The new product has improved outcomes for patients since we rolled it out in 2010.

From time to time patients need to come in to have their older orthoses reconditioned to ensure that they are optimally performing and during one of these visits, our cardiologist patient received one of our novel orthoses. Here is his reaction.

Dear Dr Santopietro,

Even though I have been your patient for 30 yrs I’ll never forget the feeling when I stood up on your handfashioned orthotics, with both internal and external lifts and felt I was standing for the first time on BOTH feet evenly. This was approximately 18 yrs ago.

As you well know I had almost lost my right leg two years earlier when I was struck by an automobile and required no less than 8 surgical procedures for multiple shattered bones with secondary infection. The leg was salvaged but I lost 11/2 inches and I was barely able to stand.

You have revised the orthotics many times over the years and I recall pacing up and down your hallways as the shoes “didn’t feel quite right”. In each case the revisions were precisely correct and I always felt more comfortable following these corrections.

As you can imagine I had trepidations when I needed a new pair of orthotics this year. This time they were modeled on your computer and they were ready and usable in 40 minutes. To my pleasant surprise they required no “breaking in” and are actually more comfortable than the original orthotics which is saying a great deal.

Dr Santopietro I congratulate you on this new methodology and I thank you for all of your care.
